Paul R Jaschke
Dr. Paul Jaschke has a PhD in Microbiology and Immunology from the University of British Columbia and completed an NSERC-funded postdoctoral fellowship in Synthetic Biology at Stanford University. While at Stanford, Dr. Jaschke developed novel methods for engineering bacterial viruses, called bacteriophage, in yeast and created the first phage with all overlapping genes ‘decompressed’. Before joining Macquarie University, Dr. Jaschke was the Scientist in Residence at the AutoDesk Research Bio/Nano group, which focused on creating advanced computational tools for designing virus genomes. He is now a Senior Lecturer at Macquarie University and an Associate Investigator of the ARC Centre of Excellence in Synthetic Biology and Phage Australia, a peak body professionalising phage therapy. His lab works on projects across synthetic biology, microbiology, and virology, including deciphering tRNA identity landscapes to engineer novel start codons to precisely control bacterial translation.
