Tal Cooper
I am a plant biotechnologist and Research Fellow at QUT's Centre for Agriculture and the Bioeconomy, where I specialise in translating molecular discoveries into practical tools for crop improvement. My work sits at the intersection of genetics, biochemistry, and applied plant science, driven by a genuine curiosity about how plants work, and an equal commitment to making that knowledge useful in the real world.
My research applies RNAi nanotechnology and functional genomics across a wide range of species, from the model plant Nicotiana benthamiana through to the fruit crops that matter most to Australian horticulture: mango, macadamia, and citrus. I'm drawn to hard problems: synchronous flowering, frost tolerance, biopesticides, biofortification. My goal is always the same, develop scalable molecular tools that work across crops, not just in one system.
